LOGOS

Allergic Rhinitis with Nonnasal Symptoms:
Intranasal Steroids Revisited

Release date: January 2008
Expiration date: December 31, 2008
Estimated time to complete activity: 2.25 hours

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians involved in the management of patients with allergic rhinitis.

Statement of Need/Program Overview

Several studies suggest that the prevalence of allergic diseases have increased worldwide in recent years. The notion of the “Unified Airway” has reinforced the concept that allergic rhinitis (AR) is frequently associated with several comorbidities, including allergic conjunctivitis, asthma, chronic sinusitis, and sleep disturbances. The purpose of this educational activity is to review the pathophysiology and treatment of AR and its nonnasal symptoms. New approaches to conventional and novel treatment options in the management of AR with nonnasal symptoms will be discussed in this practical, case-based, educational format.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Identify the nonnasal symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (AR)
  2. Describe action plans to improve the quality of life of patients with AR with nonnasal symptoms
  3. Outline the relative efficacy of available and novel pharmacotherapies used in the management of patients with AR with nonnasal symptoms
